Testimonial from Student: Holly

Parent

We were beyond over the moon with his Grade 8 in Maths, what a turnaround and all thanks to your brilliant company.

The devil is always in the detail and the time you spent establishing where his gaps were in his knowledge, ensuring that these were addressed and tested before moving on to a new level really helped and even though he had to go back to basics he was never made to feel anything other than encouraged.

Parent

Encouraged to ask questions, encouraged to work hard, encouraged he could achieve, this combined with great teaching and his hard work all helped him obtain a grade he never ever thought possible (nor did we) he has put to bed his nemesis subject at last.

I have recommended you to so many people already, we will continue to fully endorse all you do.

A thrilled and very proud mum!

MATHS: Pre GCSE Year 8 & Year 9

During these years there is an increasing focus on practising mathematical reasoning skills; understanding and the use of mathematical terminology and developing problem-solving skills.

Mastery of mathematical concepts introduced in Year 7 Maths and Year 8 Maths ensures less stress and greater confidence in Year 10.

Year 8 Maths and Year 9 Maths students study the same subcategories of Maths, but it expands in complexity year on year:

  • Number

  • Algebra

  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change

  • Geometry and measures

  • Probability

  • Statistics

We start with Maths testing and student self-assessment. The testing begins to identify what the student has already mastered to narrow down the concepts remaining to be learnt. Comparing the test results with the student's self-assessment is an interesting conversation to have with the student. Often it is a reality check causing the student to reconsider the energy and dedication that they must bring to each session to cause change.

The student sets the pace of learning and once the maths foundation has been established, the student selects the concepts to be studied. In this flipped learning environment the student is able to have greater control of their learning and experience that most have not experienced.

Student experiences increased confidence and greater participation in their learning - they are better motivated to succeed in Maths.

  • Topics are modified as necessary

  • Learning strategies are adapted to find the most successful method for the student.
