Overview

This course is designed to empower your teen to better understand their A-Level Maths and to help them succeed in exams. We focus on the principles which underpin each topic, how they relate to one another, and then apply these to solve problems in context. Together, we will dive into:

Exponentials and Logarithms

  • Understanding that logarithms and their laws effectively act as inverses to indices and their laws

  • Applying this understanding to model real world situations

Trigonometric Equations

  • Using knowledge of trig graphs and identities together with an understanding of how the calculator works to fully solve trigonometric equations

Differentiation

  • Understanding that differentiating a function gives an expression for the gradient at a point

  • Using these gradients to derive equations of tangents and normals to curves

  • Understanding how the second derivative tells you the nature of a curve’s stationary points

Circles

  • Understanding that A-Level circles problems represent the combination of GCSE circles, graph transformations, and quadratic equations

  • Applying this understanding to plot circles, derive their equations, and solve problems

Factor Theorem and Polynomial Division

  • Understanding how factor theorem relates to the factorisation of a polynomial

  • Understanding that polynomial division is effectively the same process as numerical long division

  • Applying the above to solve problems involving cubic and quartic equations

Statistics

  • Understanding what standard deviation actually is, and where its formula comes from

  • Understanding a range of techniques to find probabilities

  • Understanding that hypothesis testing is effectively working backwards from a probability to its distribution, and applying this to construct and carry out tests.

We were beyond over the moon with his Grade 8 in Maths, what a turn around and all thanks to your brilliant company. The devil is always in the detail and the time you spent establishing where his gaps were in his knowledge, ensuring that these were addressed and tested before moving on to a new level really helped and even though he had to go back to basics he was never made to feel anything other than encouraged.

Parent

Encouraged to ask questions, encouraged to work hard, encouraged he could achieve, this combined with great teaching and his hard work all helped him obtain a grade he never ever thought possible (nor did we) he has put to bed his nemesis subject at last.

I have recommended you to so many people already, we will continue to fully endorse all you do.

A thrilled and very proud mum!

I think it’s Sam’s last ever maths with you tomorrow!  We just want to thank you both for the help over the past 2 years! Sam is full of praise and says without question she has helped her more than the teacher at school. I am so glad that we came along to you. Looking back I can remember Sam asking why she has to go to extra maths when none of her friends do!  Seeing her confidence grow has been wonderful and never once has she complained about having to go. We are thrilled with her progress.
